Our First Christmas in London

In the past, Ryan and I have always spent the holidays with friends & families back in the SF bay area and Texas (where my family currently lives). This year, since we are in London for a limited time only and my in-laws were visiting shortly after Christmas, we decided to spend it in London, just the two of us. Ryan was initially slightly homesick since everyone around us was going home for Christmas, but I thought it was actually pretty cute and romantic to spend it just the two of us!

London's Winter Wonderland

Christmas Markets are a thing in Europe, London included. London has several of them, but the biggest & most popular among tourists and locals is the one in Hyde Park, Winter Wonderland. It opens from late November to early January, and it’s definitely worth a visit. We went a few times during this winter and can’t get enough of it! If you are visiting London during this time of year, make sure you put this in your itinerary.

My First Afternoon Tea Experience in London

I’ve done a few afternoon teas back home in San Francisco, but since I’m in London now, I wanted to get the real authentic experience. There are so many places here that do afternoon teas - you can probably get it at a neighborhood corner cafe. With a few of my girlfriends I met in London, we decided to try the Hotel Cafe Royal’s afternoon tea, which is one of the more iconic places to have your full British afternoon tea experience.

Spending our Saturday in Notting Hill

Notting Hill became popular through the movie starring Julia Roberts & Hugh Grant but now it’s one of the favorite spots for both locals and tourists to visit. Its cute & colorful houses, great restaurants and cafes, and the Portobello Road Market, which is a street antique market, make the neighborhood so attractive. Make sure to visit Notting Hill on Saturdays because that’s the only day all the markets and shops are open!

Christmas comes early in London

Halloween is not as big here in London compared to the states. Maybe some trick-or-treating on the streets (this could be a scam so watch out if little kids come up to you asking for money) and occasional sightings of people dressed up in costumes to go to Halloween parties, but that’s about it. Thanksgiving is definitely not a thing here since it’s an American holiday. So, what does that mean? Christmas comes super early in London! And.. I love it!

Birthday Celebration in London

Shortly after our move, Ryan’s birthday came around the corner. We both love Japanese food, especially sushi. One of our all-time favorite restaurants back in SF was an omakase style Japanese restaurant, so we were on the hunt for a new spot in London. After some Google searches, we decided to try out Yashin Sushi Bar.

Moving to London & Settling In

It’s been exactly 2 months since we moved from San Francisco to London. Time flies! Though we’ve travelled quite a bit in the past 2 months (went back to the US twice, visited Madrid & Prague), London is already feeling more like home.
